The job:

As a Nursing Officer in the RAF, you’ll provide high standards of nursing care to RAF personnel, members of other Services and entitled civilians. You could be working on a ward in Cyprus, in a specialist unit in the UK, or even 30,000 feet up in a Tristar on aeromedical evacuation duties. New postings every two or three years will keep your nursing skills sharp and offer plenty of scope for promotion. A career in the Princess Mary’s Royal Air Force Nursing Service (PMRAFNS) offers you the kind of variety you’re unlikely to find anywhere else in your profession.

Opportunities:

We’ll also encourage you to take courses relevant to Service needs, and pursue your professional training in line with the Post-Registration Education and Practice of the UK Central Council. The RAF will allow you study time and pay your fees. Promotion beyond Junior Officer level is by competition. Service beyond six years is by selection.

Qualifications you need: Professional – Registered Nurse (Adult) or Registered Nurse (Mental Health). GCSEs/SCEs at Grade C/3 minimum or equivalent in English language and maths. Full clean driving licence required for RN (Mental Health).

Qualifications you can gain: Additional professional qualifications

Nationality: Citizen of the UK, the Commonwealth or the Republic of Ireland since birth; or a naturalised British citizen.
