CDL is a leading independent software house supplying systems to the insurance industry, currently looking for an experienced Technical Author to join their team providing documentation support for all of their software applications. The role will involve working closely with developers, testers and other departments to produce reference and training materials. With excellent verbal and written communication skills you will also have practical experience of using Abode Robohelp, Illustrator and Acrobat together with knowledge of Framemaker and MS office.

Scope Of Job

Technical Authoring – Create reference & training materials for application software. Create & proofread other internal/external documentation as needed.

Testing & Quality Assurance - To ensure materials produced meet customer expectations and company quality standards

Communication – ensure a good level of teamwork, highlighting issues in good time and proactively suggesting solutions to resolve problems

Support – Assist with resolution of documentation & media issues.

Work Organisation – Effective prioritisation and meeting deadlines

Individual Development – Take ownership of personal development.

Technical/Commercial Knowledge – Maintain knowledge of current technical authoring tools, CDL applications, technical authoring standards and company issues

Dimensions & Limits Of Authority

Take responsibility and ownership for completing assigned tasks that may rely on the contribution of other team members

Estimating material development & testing days work for tasks relevant to this role

Qualifications

Relevant specialist technical authoring skills and knowledge of methodologies / standards used to create associated materials gained through formal training

Experience

Proven ability in a related job, preferably within an Insurance related role.

Quality Oriented – experience in producing high quality user documentation to specific deadlines

Authoring Domain Knowledge – Layout design, experience with publication formats (at least one of: pdf, html, hlp, etc.), and knowledge of the various authoring tools available for these formats.

Communication skills – experience of communicating with line management, technical development and sales staff; ideally some experience with clients
