The staff midwife is expected to practice within the An Bord Altranais Code of Professional Conduct guidelines.

The staff midwife is expected to practice within the An Bord Altranais Code of Professional Conduct guidelines, legislation, national and regional Health Service Executive guidelines and within local policies, guidelines and protocols.

The staff midwife will be expected to take responsibility for a caseload of service users and their care. She will assess, plan, implement and evaluate care to the highest professional and ethical standards within the model of midwifery care practiced in that care setting. The staff midwife should develop clinical expertise, leadership and teaching skills through an evidence-based approach to care delivery.
