General Technicians Mechanical are engineering technicians who repair and maintain aerospace support equipment and specialist vehicles essential to the smooth running of the RAF. You can work on everything from aircraft ground power units and arrestor systems to fire engines and tracked vehicles.

You’ll be employed in workshops equipped for extensive maintenance and rectification, and use technically advanced test equipment for fault diagnosis and analysis of engine management systems.

Like most people in the RAF, you’ll probably move jobs every few years, and each job is known as a tour. Most of your tours will be on RAF bases, where the precise nature of your work will depend on the activities at that base. Within your first few years, you’ll probably be detached overseas for anything from a few days to a few months.
